Rajinder Johar on Asar with Aamir
Beyond Limits' is back, this year in 3D avatar! Family of Disabled has been showcasing to the world the beauty of art which not just soothes the eyes but touches hearts too. It is a platform for the artists with disabilities from across India who though blessed with exclusive creativity find it difficult to exhibit due to physical, financial, communicational and attitudinal barriers.
Beyond Limits was only a dream, conceptualised by our founder, Late Shri Rajinder Johar, which was turned into reality, in 2001, with abundant support from Ms Arpana Caur, world renowned artist. As we complete 20 years of this most exclusive annual exhibition and celebrate the amazing abilities among the artists with disabilities, we also thank our founder for introducing this platform in times when none existed and artworks by disabled artists, if bought, were for charity. We take this opportunity to thank Ms. Arpana Caur and Ms. Ajeet Cour, Chairperson, Academy of Fine Arts & Literature for their unflinching support in the past 20 years.
Though we could not organise the annual exhibition & sale at Arpana Art Gallery owing to Covid-19, but today, the 19th of January, is our founder's day and hence, inaugurating our first ever virtual exhibition, would only be a befitting tribute to him too as we carry forward his legacy.
We welcome all, especially the art connoisseurs and aficionados, to the 3D display of 250 exemplary artworks by more than 70 talented artists from across India and also to the gallery of multifarious sculptures and assemblage works.
A great variety has been brought to you under one roof to enjoy, appreciate and even possess. Some works clearly bear the signature style of the artist while others are aesthetically pleasant to the eyes and pure bliss to behold. They create in our minds a different picture of the person than physical limits imply and allow his or her soul to soar above in a realm beyond the mundane and ordinary. As Alfred Stieglitz said, "The goal of art was the vital expression of self."
We are grateful to our trustee Ms. Stuti Kacker for taking active interest in organising this year's exhibition. We are also thankful to the dedicated team at Subharti University; an online event like this would not have been possible without them.
As Beyond Limits-Virtual Art Exhibition opens its gate to all the art lovers to experience the beauty of artistic expressions we wish all our participants an astounding success.
